[ they say that you can't take material possessions with you into the afterlife, so why bother with them?
asami says that it's because there's nothing better than spoiling yourself.
and in this case, perhaps there's nothing better than dragging the avatar with her to both test drive a new prototype sportsmobile and do a little shopping in the city along the way. sure, asami makes certain to take the vehicle for it's miles' worth, letting korra nearly destroy the accelerator and put the engine through its paces with her daredevil driving and turning corners all too short just because she can. but asami has ulterior motives - a day out on the town, just the two of them without any interruptions from squabbling boys (as beloved as they are). she hasn't told her just yet, instead just reaching over her slightly and pointing towards a curb with a space just right for the car. ]
Park us over there.
[ she crowds into her space, an arm around the headrest of the seat - lingering smell of something heady - magnolias warmed over in the summertime. ]
Remember how this time?
[ korra's driving is... not quite abysmal. but it's not the best either. ]
( korra figures it's something along the lines of if this car is avatar korra proof, it's safe for everyone, and rolls with it, despite being a little playfully insulted by the notion. she won't turn down spending any quality time with asami anyway, because even while it's nice to get away from the boys and her avatar duties for a little while, it's even nicer to spend that time with her - sparring or testing out new sato industries tech, or. anything, really. asami's a fun time.
she's about as terrible at driving as she was the first time, but asami is nothing if not a stubborn teacher, and there have been a few steady improvements as far as not slamming her foot on the break every few seconds out of sheer instinct. her fingers are still gripped too tightly on the steering wheel, but at the question she steels her shoulders, nodding once. )
Aye aye, Captain.
( she'd give a salute if she wasn't focusing. these hands are Not leaving the wheel, no.
anyway, she stares questioningly at the controls for a second. does she remember how to park? yeah, totally. it's ... one of these. her hand hovers over something, and then switches over somewhere else, gripping a lever in her hand. she double checks with asami, just to make sure. her affirmed nod gives korra a pleasant sparkle of butterflies, and then she sets to the motions, parking crookedly and a good half a foot away from the curb. at least there's a giant spirit vine settled in front of them - no one will be driving over this way.
with the car off, she lets out a breath, before turning to smile at asami. )
Give me a grade?
tags you back a million years later w/e im ur wife i do what i want
asami does hold her breath, however, while korra decides on how she wants to go about parking. it's sort of a... trial by fire of sorts. you never know what you're going to get when korra's at the wheel. but she's determined, and asami will always give her that. it's why she lets her try again and again (not to mention that there is the very lowkey shady idea that korra driving in her car is kind of great for business - but that's not at all why she does it. it's just a perk!)
in any case, she does her best to remain calm, neutral in the face as korra parks (not as terribly as she'd anticipated!) there's a little bit of bumping here and there and she's pretty sure the paint is going to come off on that one spirit vine's particularly curly end, but hey.
she let the avatar drive. that's what she gets. with the ignition off, asami brings a finger up to her own chin a moment in mock thought, lets korra stew in it before humming. ] Mmmm. You put in a good effort - we'll call it passing this time, how's that? Just passing.
[ and because her side is trapped by a spirit vine (thanks, korra), she's going to actually brace a hand on her shoulder, the other reaching over to touch the top of the windowless door. she vaults out, practiced with a couple of small steps to balance herself out. good thing for flat boots today, she thinks, turning around with a smile, bright and easy. ] Passing grades get rewarded all the same.
